James Bond has a famous preference for vodka martinis, but with the 24th Bond film 'Spectre' recently announced, a University of Leicester expert on the fictional spy has noted some of the occasions when Bond was known to buy wine instead.

Professor James Chapman says whatever Bond is drinking, the brand is likely to be significant, adding: "Bond's expensive tastes reflected a fantasy world in which access to consumer products went hand in hand with his sexual prowess."

In some instances though, his choice of drink simply reflected personal tastes - pink champagne, especially Taittinger to go with his scrambled eggs.

And while the vodka martini typically comes out for special occasions, especially when dining with a villain, Bond is seen to buy wine in several exotic locations around the world.

However, you might want to consult your local wine merchant before following suit - Professor Chapman points out the tipple Phu Yuck, a Thai wine in The Man With the Golden Gun, adding: "The least said, the better."

By relying on the expertise of your local wine merchant, you can make sure you get only the best when you buy wine from unusual locations - ensuring you get a bottle fit for the table of the world's most famous spy and his various arch-enemies.
