If you read our previous article about Frosé, the slushy summery take on a fruity frozen rosé cocktail, you may already be open to the idea to buy wine online and decant it into ice cube trays or bags destined for the freezer.

But following the trend in recent years for serving even red wine with a cube or two of ice during the summer months, we have two more recipes that could inspire you to buy wine online and unpack the delivery directly into your ice box.

The first is similar in principle to Frosé, but uses red wine in place of rosé for a sangria slush - just blend frozen or very well chilled red wine with frozen berries and peeled segments of frozen citrus fruit, along with a dash of orange liqueur or brandy and extra agave syrup to balance out the sweetness.

You can approach this in several different ways - either freezing the red wine first in trays or bags, like with the popularised Frosé recipe, or chilling it well, or even by blending the ingredients to begin with at room temperature, and only then freezing it in a suitable container.

The alcohol content should ensure the finished mixture will not set solid, so that within a few minutes of leaving the freezer, it loosens up to a slushy consistency again.

If you are preparing it to drink immediately, and your wine is chilled but not ice cold, just throw in some extra ice cubes for the slushy texture.

Finally, for a twist on frozen sangria, blend ice, tequila, orange liqueur, agave syrup and lime juice and layer this frozen margarita mix into the sangria slush to create a 'sangarita'.

There's no end of other cocktails you can try, and when you buy wine online, you don't have to tell the wine merchant what you plan to do with it! So no judgement here - get it into the freezer and find your new favourite refreshment for the remaining sunny days of summer.
