You can't go anywhere in January without seeing 'new year, new you!' screaming at you from advertisements, but if you're keen to develop your cultural side in 2015, local wine merchants can help.

Figures from Sainsbury's Bank reveal that 23.5 million Britons plan to go on holiday in 2015 - 21% expected to have booked their break before New Year's Eve and another 14% intend to do so before the end of January.

Booking a holiday is a popular way to shut out the short days and colder weather of winter, giving you a spring break or summer vacation to look forward to.

And with 7% of all these holidays based around arts, culture, food and wine, you can get a head-start with a trip to your local wine merchants.

Many wine merchants host tasting evenings, often in collaboration with fine wine companies, so you can start to learn about new wines before you travel to a vineyard or growing region abroad.

Even if you cannot attend one of these, speak to your wine merchants about new varieties and their suggested food pairings, and you can still hit the ground running on any New Year's Resolution to learn more about wine in 2015.
